Okay guys 1st time post please be gentle.
1st would like to thankyou all you guys for the information i have aquired in the past week. I have been day and night trying to get into my box and it has been fun learning linux commands and what not, but now i am stuck and i have been googling for the past 2 days and cant seem to find the answer.
The situation is i have a dreambox dm518s. My parents paid $500 and a yearly price of $200 for all these international channels. Anyway what i have done so far is removed the password he has locked the box down with using tuxcom (thank you guys for that :). Now i can access the box with the username:root and password: dreambox from internet explorer, but when i try to FTP into the box i recieve the following error:
Connection failed: OOPS child died or
Connection failed: Chdir failed
Also when i telnet to the box through putty, when i login i recieve this message:
warning: cannot change to home directory
In putty the root directory is: root@dreambox
But on my other box dm500s with a fresh clean image the root directory is: ~ >
Details of image/518s box:
Processor: STBx25xx, 252MHz
USB Stick: none
Linux Kernel: Linux version 2.6.9 (tux@tux) (gcc version 3.4.4) #1 Mon Dec 17 18:14:03 CET 2007
Firmware: release 4.2.0, 17.12.2007
FP Firmware: n/a
Web Interface: 6.0.4-Expert
I'm thinking it might be a permission thing but i am able to create directories on the box via putty using the mkdir command, so not to sure.
The other thing, is it possible he may have installed something physically, like someharware in the box which then does not allow me to access the box via FTP?
Thankyou in advance guys and any help is greatly appreciated, really pulling out my hair here.
